Man Singh and Rajput, confidantes of Akbar, decided to play a few boards of carrom. The name of the play is Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya. The plot is super funny. Birbal is quite pissed off with Akbar, for having acted in so many films without him. Think Mughal-E-Azam and more recently Jodha Akbar, Birbal wasn't there. So he decides to pop into Akbar's life, as a sculptor and once as Barrack Obama. Akbar is known as Akbar Patil, a king who deals in scrap, has made Sheesh Mahal out of a million broken bottles of beer. Being a Marathi play with several direct and indirect influences from the Kolis and their lifestyle, the cast is dressed in some outrageous 'lungis'. The scene that rocked most was when Salim calls up Akbar on his mobile, and is unable to get through. He wishes to inform Akbar that he is in love with Anarkali and wants to marry her. Akbar walks on the stage, with a spotlight for company, yelling out a message that goes, "the person you are trying to reach is currently busy, eating prawns, please call later". Akbar's entry in the play too, is unforgettable. Sumedha Raikar-Mhatre, one of my teachers at XIC, has written a much much better review for Timeout Mumbai's current edition. Tried looking for it online, can't find it. Go for it, that is if you understand Marathi!
